What is the restorative dentistry?

Restorative dentistry focuses on repairing damaged or decayed teeth so your child can chew, speak, and smile comfortably. Our restorative services include everything from tooth-colored fillings to space maintainers and full-coverage crowns—all done in a way that makes kids feel safe and supported. Dr. B takes her time explaining each step in child-friendly language and works closely with parents to choose the best option for their child’s needs and personality.Whether we’re stopping a cavity in its tracks or rebuilding a broken tooth, our goal is always the same: protect your child’s long-term oral health with care that feels good in the moment.

The Benefits of restorative dentistry

Prompt, gentle restoration doesn’t just fix a problem—it builds trust, confidence, and a strong foundation for lifelong oral health. Our approach to restorative care is flexible, family-friendly, and focused on preserving as much natural tooth structure as possible. We choose materials and methods that are durable, esthetic, and comfortable, so your child can eat, speak, and smile without worry.

Stop pain fast

We treat dental issues efficiently and compassionately to relieve discomfort and prevent further damage.

Protect growing smiles

Restorative treatments preserve your child’s natural teeth so they can speak, eat, and develop normally.

Designed for kids

We use high-quality, child-appropriate materials like tooth-colored fillings and durable dental crowns for safe, lasting results.

Our restorative services

Tooth-colored fillings

For small to moderate cavities, we use composite (tooth-colored) fillings that blend in naturally with your child’s smile. These restorations are strong, esthetic, and placed with a gentle touch. Dr. B uses distraction techniques and kid-friendly language throughout the process to ensure your child feels calm and confident.

Dental crowns

Dental crowns are ideal for restoring baby teeth that have large cavities or have undergone a pulpotomy. We use durable materials, and most crowns can be completed in one visit—making them a great choice for active little ones who need reliable protection.

Pulpotomies

When decay reaches the inner part of the tooth, a pulpotomy, often called a "baby root canal," can remove the infected portion while saving the rest of the baby tooth. This helps avoid premature tooth loss and maintains proper spacing for permanent teeth. Our pulpotomies are done with extra care, and we always discuss sedation options if your child is especially anxious or sensitive.

Silver diamine fluoride (SDF)

SDF is a non-invasive treatment that halts early cavities without drilling or shots. It works by killing bacteria and hardening the tooth surface, making it ideal for children with anxiety, medical considerations, or very early-stage decay. It’s fast, effective, and completely painless. However, it can permanently stain the tooth black, making it not ideal for visible or permanent teeth.

Extractions

Tooth extractions are sometimes necessary to protect your child’s overall oral health—especially when a baby tooth is severely damaged, infected, or blocking the path of an incoming adult tooth. At The Smile Society, we make the process as smooth and gentle as possible, using kid-friendly techniques and clear communication every step of the way. Our goal is always to preserve natural teeth when we can, but when extraction is the best option, we’re here to support your family with expert care and comfort-focused solutions.

FAQ

Curious about fillings, crowns, or whether your child really needs a pulpotomy? Check out some of the most common questions parents ask about restorative care at our office.

Dr. B will perform a thorough exam and take X-rays if needed to assess decay, damage, or early signs of infection. We’ll walk you through the findings and create a plan together.

Our team uses gentle techniques, topical numbing, and nitrous sedation if needed to keep kids comfortable and calm. We take extra care to explain everything and never rush.

SDF can stop small cavities from progressing, but it’s usually part of a larger treatment plan. Dr. B will monitor the tooth and decide if reapplication or a future filling is needed.
